T he festive season is usually celebrated with parties, Christmas lunches and shopping sprees. We all welcome the new year with a big bang, however many of us always make the same mistake — we overspend during this festive time and suffer the consequence in the new year.

With a new year, comes new year resolutions. Making improvements on your financial well being should be on the top of the list. It may be easier said than done, but it can be done. We have a few tips to help you put your financial health in order.

  • Invest in yourself

You are your number one investment. Allow yourself to indulge once in a while. Be sure not to over indulge and go crazy. You’ll suffer the consequences for a long time.

  • Plan a budget

Everybody needs to plan a budget, no matter how much they earn. You can’t become financially healthy if you do not know when and what you are spending your money on. Plan a budget and stick to it.

  • Pay off debt

Pay your bills on time every month. If possible, try to pay a little extra.

  • Plan for a rainy day

Emergencies are always unexpected. Store some cash incase of those emergencies.

  • Know your credit rating

It is very important to establish a good credit record as early as possible. If you need to make a load one day, your good credit rating will help you get the best rate.

  • Review your progress on a regular basis

Every few months, take a look at your debt and savings. Assess where to need to pay more attention and what you can improve on.

We tend mismanage money on a daily basis without even realising it — the result: stress and financial problems. Follow the above mentioned steps and your financial health will definitely improve over time.
