5 Ways to keep active when at home with the familyIt’s normal to lose the motivation and will power to go to gym and exercise alone. Many of us do. We would much rather spend quality time at home with our family. What if there was a way to exercise and spend time with your family at the same time?

We have found some great ways to keep you and your family active and entertained when you suddenly lose the urge to get a 60 minute workout at the gym, and would prefer to get more involved with the little ones at home.

Rearranging the rooms in your home
Get creative with the family and come up with some new ideas to rearrange the furniture in your lounge or bedrooms. This will keep you very busy (lifting and pushing furniture around). A change in the layout is always refreshing to come home to as well.

Clean and dance
Make cleaning a fun chore with your family. Play some of your favourite music and give everybody a cleaning chore to do. Throw in some of your famous dance moves and get the family cleaning up a storm. This is the perfect activity for a rainy day at home.

Make an obstacle course at home
Your children will love this. Make an obstacle course where your children can crawl through a tunnel made of chairs, make them bounce on a ball, jump through hoops, use a skipping rope and row with a paddle for some fun exercise moves. You can use the kids’ toys or get creative by using things around the house.

Empty your cupboards and donate to charity
This is a wonderful way to help the less fortunate in the community and keep busy at home. Dedicate a day in the week and get your children to help pack all the toys, clothes, books and furniture they do not need or want into boxes for charity.

Put on an exercise video
Instead of sitting on the couch watching TV, get active and put on a workout DVD. This is a good idea to keep active on a cold day when you want to stay indoors. Get the children involved and see who can keep up with all the exercise moves.

These are just a few of the many fun ways to keep active at home with your family.
