What is Malaria?

Malaria is one of the most common diseases caused by a mosquito bite. Female Anopheles mosquitos carry malaria parasites. When they bite someone, those parasites enter the body causing malaria.

Symptoms of Malaria

The symptoms include flu-like illness with fever, chills, muscle aches, and headache. Some patients develop nausea, vomiting, coughing, and diarrhoea. Cycles of chills, fever, and sweating that repeats every one, two, or three days are typical symptoms. On some occasions yellowing of the skin and of the eyes mat occur due to destruction of red blood cells and liver cells.

Stages of Malaria – Malaria has three stages:

Cold Stage – The patient will feel very cold and desires to be covered with blankets. This stage lasts between 15 – 60 minutes.
Hot Stage – the temperature may rise to 41 degrees celsius. The patient feels burning hot and casts off his clothes
Intense headaches -headaches may occur. This stage lasts between 2 to 6 hours.
Sweating Stage – Fever comes down with sweating. This stage lasts between 2 to 4 hours.
Causes of Malaria

Malaria can attack people living in unhealthy conditions. Malarial mosquitoes grow in unhygienic places. Change in climate and temperature, attack of parasites, moving from one place to another are other reasons for malaria.

5 ways to prevent Malaria

  1. Wear long-sleeved clothing and long pants when outside.
  2. Spray on the places where mosquitos breeds.
  3. Change the water in the flower pots every 2 to 3 days.
  4. Stay in well-screened areas as much as possible during the evening.
  5. Use anti-mosquito spray to destroy the mosquitoes in the surroundings.

How to cure Malaria

  • Fever nut is one of the well liked home remedies for malaria. They are very beneficial in the treatment of malaria. You can find them in the herbal store. You can go for either any of the fever nut preparations or you can purchase it raw and make powder of it. However you are advised to do this under medical supervision.
  • Try to avoid junk food, packed food, spicy and oily food. This will make the malarial case worse.
  • Boil one glassful of water with one teaspoon of Cinnamon powder. Drink it after adding a bit of pepper powder and honey. This gives relief in malarial fever up to certain extent.
