S ome people still can’t differentiate between between Aids and HIV. To simplify this we are going to break it down:

H – Human – This particular virus can only infect human beings.
I – Immunodeficiency – HIV weakens your immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection.
V – Virus- A virus can only reproduce itself by taking over a cell in the body of its host.

HIV virus’s cannot grow or reproduce on their own; they need to infect the cells of a living organism in order to make new copies of themselves. The human immune system usually finds and kills viruses fairly quickly, but HIV attacks the immune system itself – the very thing that would normally get rid of a virus.

HIV can hide for long periods of time in the cells of your body and while attacking your immune system. Over time, HIV can destroy your CD4 cells to an extent that your body can’t fight infections and diseases anymore. When this takes place, HIV infection can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
